Dr. Stephen Wilson received his bachelors in biomedical science at Texas A&M University in 1976, and his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1979. He built and opened the Calhoun County Animal Hospital in 1982 and practiced there until selling it in 2016, working there as an associate until March of 2019. He has served as the regional veterinarian for the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network, treating stranded whales and dolphins, and has provided local emergency services for injured birds of prey (working with John Karger, Last Chance Forever in San Antonio). Dr. Wilson also worked with the late Tony Amos at the UT Marine Science Center, providing surgical services for injured or hooked sea turtles. He was received the 1996 Texas State Game Warden's Conservationist of the Year award.
Dr. Wilson served on the GBRA Board of Directors from 1999-2008, acting as Vice President and eventually President of the board. Wilson was also one of the initial board members of the San Antonio Bay Foundation where he served a term as president and has previously served on the GBRT Board. He has been married to his wife Brenda Wilson for 43 years and has 2 grown sons, Grant and Peyton. He currently lives in New Braunfels, Texas.
